Thomas Winter earned a bachelor's degree in 1959 and an MBA in 1961, both from Harvard University.〔〔 He joined ''Human Events'' in 1961 at the age of 24 as an assistant editor.〔〔 In 1964, he took over the paper as its editor, and in 1966 he became co-owner and president.〔〔〔Ronald Lora, William Henry Longton, ''The conservative press in twentieth-century America'', Greenwood Publishing Group, 1999, p.459 ()〕 He assumed the title editor-in-chief in 1996.〔〔
